Located in St. Augustine, the Backyard Retreat Pool was designed with one purpose in mind: maximizing available space to create the ultimate gathering space for friends and family.

These homeowners knew they weren’t blessed with a lot as big as some of their neighbors, and worried this meant they wouldn’t have enough space to go through with their dream outdoor transformation. The Breakwater team took this challenge in stride, delivering a product that captured their vision.

In order to use every square foot possible for their backyard oasis, their design includes an angled pool with the flush spa and raised wall centered as the focal points. Getting creative with the pool shape gave these customers room for a dining room table and lounge chairs around the deck, allowing for even more areas to entertain.

CHALLENGE & ACTION

These homeowners were worried that given the space they had available for a pool and screen, it wouldn’t be possible for them to end up with the backyard transformation they had dreamt of. However, working closely with Chelsey, their Sales & Design team member, they got all that they wished for and more.

Instead of going with a standard rectangle that would fit within the property bounds, our team decided to get creative and see what else they could do to capitalize on all of the available space. By angling the ends of the pool and placing the spa in the middle, we managed to come up with the largest pool possible, along with installing a spa and raised deck area.

In order to make the deck around the pool feel large, these customers also decided on marble pavers for a bright, continuous feel to the space. The decision to go with a hidden deck drain also creates cohesiveness from the lanai to the screen enclosure.

Overall, our team managed to deliver these customers the ultimate backyard retreat while staying within lot boundaries. Creative decisions made throughout the process resulted in the ideal hangout spot for their friends and family, just as they had envisioned.

THE TRANSFORMATION

From the fire feature to the spa, this space has become the go-to spot for their friends and family to spend sunny Florida days. The sheer descent waterfalls make the backyard sound like paradise, while the heated spa ensures they can enjoy their backyard retreat all year long.

With their kids and grandkids living right down the street, these customers have hosted everything from nights in the spa watching TV to big summer pool parties. One of their grandsons was thrilled when the pool got done right on time to invite his friends over and celebrate his birthday.
