We are used to having a relatively easy pool to maintain vinyl lined in ground pool in New Jersey, and given our relocation to Florida, with its extremely warm weather, another pool was imperative. In 2005 we began to research various pool options and determined that a fiberglass pool would be the best option: and then identified-pool  retailers in the Jacksonville area which provided and installed them.

For about 8 months-of regular and repeated attempts to contact these companies both by e-mail and telephone, none even attempted to capture our business by returning phone calls and messages. We began to get extremely disappointed and frustrated until we found Breakwater Backyards. In April, 2007 my wife e-mailed Joe Dethloff of Breakwater Backyards, who promptly, contacted us to set up a meeting. Something must be wrong with this company because pool installers don't call back.

I returned home one afternoon, just in time to find Joe and my wife deep in discussion about the specific criteria for a pool my wife had... Joe had his computer , real time displaying CAD proposed design, layout and positioning in our backyard....along with a preliminary price proposal. It is important to know that i personally will drill down on all contractors with a healthy skepticism of their qualifications, intent and integrity.

In this case it was a virtual waste of time... it was apparent at the outset that Joe Dethloff is a professional, but most importantly... I knew then and there this was a  PERSON OF INTEGRITY; he listens to the customer and partners with them to make suggestions and help design and deliver the best solution... he does not over-sell, nor sugar coat. He provides advice and solid recommendations with full explanation as to the advantages of each option and choice as if this was a pool he would be installing for his own family..... the rest would be a matter of negotiation.

We settled then and there without further need, nor desire to shop around for alternative contractors or pricing.

Perhaps one of the most surprising elements of the entire process was that we were swimming in our pool in just over four weeks from the date sat down with Joe and signed the contract.....and we simply love everything about it. My wife uses it daily in the am & again late at night.

Over many years we have worked with many different contractors in all facets of home construction and or repair, and have never been more pleased than our experience with Breakwater Backyards and Joe Dethloff.
